Writing vs. Twitter

Posted by Chris Blackwell on Nov 25, 2008 in General |

It has been almost two months since my last post on this website. I’ve kept saying to myself that I had to start writing again, but every time I kept getting lost. Lost in what? Twitter!

I use to write as an expression of my thoughts and feelings on subjects, and spend careful time thinking about each post and selecting the right imagery to go along with it. Now, whenever I have a question or a thought, I just post it on Twitter. Twitter doesn’t make me think about my post structure because there is a 140 character limit. Twitter also doesn’t make me think about images, website design, all the usual stuff. Twitter just tells me to enter my 140 characters and press submit.

So is this a good thing or a bad thing? I think, like everything in life, you have to find a balance. Twitter defiantly has it’s place, but I don’t think you should give up writing just to Twitter all the time. Know when to write and when to tweet. I’ll write a more in-depth article later on when to twitter and when to write. For now, let me just announce that I’m back writing and I plan to keep it that way.

I think I’m starting to find the balance now. Set specific time limits and uses for Twitter
